Make Team days more productive ... survey responses
In many respects this inquiry into theories of learning only has value when translated into forms of action. This may mean that the inquiry needs to be developed over an extended period of time.
Action may include:
discussions which deductively test the boundaries of a theory of learning
applications which test the theory of learning in relation to one’s own learning
applications which test the theory of learning in the work context i.e. with teachers as they engage with practices connected to the theory of learning
Provides opportunity to focus on individual professional interests
In future I would support a dual approach, of opportunities for meeting as a whole team (for purposeful learning, sharing and discussion) AND opportunities for small team work. I think there is a place and need for both.
I don’t think this first attempt was as ‘productive’ as a second attempt would be. I would be more focussed in a second attempt and have a better idea of how to get started and focus on the journey, instead of getting caught up in what the end product would be.
I would have liked to know in advance that this was happening as a component of Team meetings this year so I could relate it to my Professional Learning Plan.
It was great that the L&SW Team did something that everyone had a choice about rather than just turning up on the day. It meant we could follow up on our area of interest as well as getting together in both smaller and larger groups. I hope this kind of smaller group work continues next year.
I think there were times when I was more frustrated. Each time we gathered together we seem to go off on a different tangent. We often became bogged down by what it was we had to present at the end.
Team days were perhaps more focussed but the distance between days met that often we needed to re-cap on what was covered in the previous day and this meant precious time was used in long re-caps.
Thoroughly enjoyed it – I always enjoy in engaging with educational theories. Much better than being passively updated on info that can be sent in other ways.
Not sure about this one as I only joined the team in mid June. I found though that the discussion when we met as a group was both interesting and invited participants to think about various learning theories.
It was an interesting process – more useful than passive/transmission. There were some thought provoking conversations but we struggled to meet the range of expectations & learning styles within the group.
